Authorship & Contributions

The Journal of Intelligent Computing and Connected Systems (JICCS) is committed to ensuring that authorship accurately reflects meaningful contributions to scholarly research and publication.

All authors are expected to take responsibility for their contributions and to approve the final version of the manuscript before submission.

1. Authorship Principles

Authorship should be based on meaningful contributions to the research and manuscript.

Individuals listed as authors should have made substantial contributions to one or more important aspects of the work, such as:

  • Conception or design of the research.
  • Development of methodology.
  • Data collection or acquisition.
  • Data analysis or interpretation.
  • Development or implementation of algorithms, systems, or experiments.
  • Drafting or substantial revision of the manuscript.
  • Final approval of the version submitted for publication.
  • Accountability for the integrity of their contributions.

2. Author Responsibilities

Each author should:

  • Approve the final manuscript.
  • Agree to be listed as an author.
  • Contribute appropriately to the research.
  • Participate in addressing questions related to their contribution.
  • Ensure that information relevant to their contribution is accurate.
  • Support the integrity of the research and publication.

Authors should communicate with each other and the editorial team regarding authorship matters before submission whenever possible.

3. Corresponding Author

The corresponding author acts as the primary contact between the authors and the journal.

The corresponding author is responsible for:

  • Coordinating communication with the editorial team.
  • Providing accurate author information.
  • Confirming that all authors approve the submission.
  • Communicating editorial decisions and requests to the other authors.
  • Coordinating revisions.
  • Ensuring that required declarations and submission information are provided.

The corresponding author does not necessarily have to be the first author.

4. Author Contributions

Where appropriate, authors may be asked to provide a statement describing their individual contributions.

Examples of contributions may include:

  • Conceptualization
  • Methodology
  • Software
  • Data Collection
  • Investigation
  • Formal Analysis
  • Writing – Original Draft
  • Writing – Review & Editing
  • Supervision
  • Project Administration

Authors should ensure that contribution statements accurately represent the work performed by each contributor.

5. Changes in Authorship

Any request to add, remove, or change the order of authors after submission should be communicated to the editorial team.

Such requests should:

  • Include a clear explanation for the proposed change.
  • Be agreed upon by all affected authors.
  • Be submitted through the appropriate journal procedure.
  • Be approved by the editorial team before the change is implemented.

Changes in authorship after publication may require additional documentation and editorial consideration.

6. Adding an Author

A person should be added as an author only when they have made an appropriate contribution that meets the journal's authorship requirements.

The existing authors should ensure that the proposed author agrees to be listed and approves the manuscript.

7. Removing an Author

An author should not be removed without appropriate agreement from the affected author and the other authors.

The editorial team may request documentation or clarification before approving a change.

8. Author Order

The order of authors should be agreed upon by the authors before submission.

JICCS does not normally determine the order of authors. Authors are responsible for reaching an agreement regarding author order based on their respective contributions.

9. Contributors Who Are Not Authors

Individuals who provide assistance but do not meet the criteria for authorship may be acknowledged where appropriate.

Examples may include:

  • Administrative assistance.
  • General technical support.
  • Language or proofreading assistance.
  • Access to facilities or resources.
  • Other forms of support that do not constitute authorship.

Permission should be obtained before including an individual in an acknowledgement.

10. Guest, Gift, and Ghost Authorship

JICCS does not support inappropriate authorship practices.

Guest or Gift Authorship

Listing an individual as an author despite their lack of a meaningful contribution is inappropriate.

Ghost Authorship

Failing to acknowledge an individual who made a substantial contribution to the research or manuscript may also constitute inappropriate authorship practice.

Authors should ensure that the author list accurately reflects genuine contributions.

11. Artificial Intelligence and Authorship

Generative AI systems and other AI-assisted tools should not be listed as authors.

Authors remain responsible for:

  • The accuracy of the manuscript.
  • The originality of the work.
  • Verification of AI-assisted content.
  • Proper citation and acknowledgement where applicable.
  • Compliance with the journal's AI-use requirements.

Where disclosure is required, authors should describe the use of AI-assisted tools according to the journal's applicable policies.

12. Authorship Disputes

JICCS encourages authors to resolve authorship disagreements among themselves before submission whenever possible.

If an authorship dispute is brought to the attention of the journal, the editorial team may request relevant information and documentation.

The journal may pause editorial processing while an authorship issue is being resolved.

13. Accountability

All authors share responsibility for ensuring that the submitted work is presented accurately and ethically.

Each author should be able to identify their own contributions and cooperate appropriately if questions arise regarding the integrity of the research or manuscript.

14. Author Confirmation

Before submitting a manuscript, authors should confirm:

☐ All listed authors have made appropriate contributions.
☐ All authors have approved the final manuscript.
☐ All authors agree with the submitted author order.
☐ The corresponding author has been identified.
☐ Author affiliations and contact information are accurate.
☐ Contribution statements are accurate where required.
☐ Individuals who do not qualify as authors are appropriately acknowledged where applicable.
☐ Any authorship changes have been communicated to the editorial team.

Commitment to Responsible Authorship

JICCS expects authors to maintain transparency and integrity when determining authorship and reporting individual contributions. Accurate authorship helps ensure that appropriate credit and responsibility are assigned to everyone involved in the research.
